Cleanse and rejuvenate! It is the perfect time to spring forward with simple and refreshing techniques that will bring you energy and peace of mind.

MIND

We often think of a detox as cutting out all forms of junk food. Just as important as the foods that we put into our bodies are the thoughts that we put into our mind. Cultivating positive thoughts can make such a difference in our overall health and well being that it is worth the effort to pay attention to what you commonly think and say. So let’s start our Spring detox off by detoxing our mind!

kaleBODY

There are many ways to purify your body… one of the best ways is to consume more greens. Consuming chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for giving all green plants their color, will strengthen your liver, and spring is liver season according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Some excellent sources of chlorophyll include spinach, parsley, garden cress, green beans, green peppers, Brussels sprouts, green peas, asparagus, broccoli, zucchini, cucumbers, green apples, melon, honeydew and kiwi.

SPIRIT

I would encourage you to practice some form of deep breathing for your spirit, which can be accomplished by exercise or movement of any kind as well as meditation. I think we get too hung up on sitting to meditate when so many other activities can bring about the same benefits. So take a walk, go to a yoga class, take an art class (or skydiving if that speaks to you), just find a way to make it a joyful and meaningful experience… and while you are experiencing the joy, remember to breathe!

CLOSET

This is what “spring cleaning” used to mean. It was a time to open the windows and give our homes a deep cleaning. What better way to bring in the new season than to purge what no longer serves us in our closets? According to the book “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” we should remove all of the clothes from our closet and only put back what makes us happy. You can do it any way that works for you, but if you haven’t done it in a while, now is the perfect time.
